I see something wonderful and new in the editor, the skysystem. I downloaded the wiki page on this and wanted to ask.

1 - When using the skysystem does it require more processing power?
2 - Is it a good alternative to using sky box, spheres etc?

Thank you!

yes its great, but it would be cool to combine this feature with traditional skyspheres or custom skyobjects etc. ... Evtl. to add a alpha mask on this layer to mix it up. Only a idea..

Is it possible to animate the texture of an skydome? This would be nice. Example: animated lightnings in a cloudwall. That means more dynamic backgrounds. would be nice. thx

hope its ok to enhance your questions, merrie...

I haven't done it yet, but we discussed this in an earlier thread about weather systems.
Basically what you would do is use an animated  texture on the sky sphere, as if it were a giant movie screen.
Depending on the effect you are looking for you could change the opacity levels of the sphere's and stack them in layers so you could have clouds moving behind each other, lightning effects, etc.

The sun sytem is nice with the lightning but I do not like the cloud layer. So I will add some sky spheres and textures this weekend. In VUE you can get some really nice skies, of course in terragen too.

I will provide with samples. What I had in earlier demos was a texture with sun in 1 layer and then a sky in the next layer, then I just animated the cloud layer with "additive" so the sun is see-through

Pixel, are you mixing that with sky spheres?
I mean, are you using your own spheres with the existing sky system.....?

No, haven't tried that. But isn't basically the sky system a directional light, a cloud layer and something controlling the color?

I think we can just add a light source, a sphere with animated texture and it's the same. It's basically just a GUI for the same stuff but you cannot change sjy texture. So easier to do it manually I guess. I don't know if we can access the sky texture because that would be good

Meh, don't know....
I'd rather build my sky with layers anyway, the sky system is set up for the drag and drop crew that want instant game at the push of a button....
Here's the thread I was talking about:

Did you forget this thread Pixel  Wink....
