Agreed. If engine such n such is way better than GC...show me proof.Get a character running in 3drad, jimb that ain't a car.
Show me anything made by anyone other than thegamecreators themselves from DarkBasic that did anything.
I have RealmCrafter from blitz---best thing to ever come from that engine....yet now it's going to a proprietary c++ engine soon.

I'm absolutely sick of people whining about GC.PROVE (enginex) IS BETTER.

or STFU.

NOTHING is this easy to use. [And, as soon as we get some community made scripts and models.....NOTHING anywhere near the price will be this powerful.

I've used/tested them all.( been at this since 1997 when i first saw the build engine at work)Used a lot of the same content in every one...or tried to.I've even used hacked to heck n back idtech1 ports.Nothing allows me to do what I can do with GC.

And if you can't understand that, then go away. We're going to...or at the very least I'm going to....get a base rpg template done.

And yes, it does seem as if a lot of the whining is of the " click button make my game plz" type.

The closest thing anyone if going to find to that is 2 things from the dark basic guys.....and even then....YOU STILL HAVE TO PROGRAM .

Don't bring crap here.....I've seen 'em all.

Flat out in my opinion:

-3DRad IS CRAP, however -- it USED to be better.  Until the company when under and scrapped version 5.2 ( which I still do have the net version ), then some bone head got permission to take it and carry it on, and make it more terrible in which you have to pay more for it per object is what really happened.

-I believe Steely is going a little bit too over the head in detail.  And NO, this isnt exactly a NEW engine.  And YES, the I wish GC threads are NOT pointless.  There's nothing wrong with expressing ideas for the engine that big devs may or may not read, it only fuels what might be in for the future.  More further, I am interested in creating templates, like the city creator I had going on which could have been popular, but it failed because I did not realize there is no gpu (Huh) instancing.  It would have been a fine contribution, why?  Because it came from an idea that I decided to attempt to make myself.

-I've experimented with a ton of engines.  Although I do believe GC needs some improvements, I still use it -- I know I said I'd like to see an update blah blah blah but -- this seems to be the only engine I have used that has made the most satisfying improvements.  Believe me.  And do not use FPSCreator.  THAT is pure crap with empty promises.  And those forum members are a bunch of idiots.  People on HERE are very sophisticated, friendly, and actually are willing to help others out if if their problems has been posted before ( as opposed to the FPScreator forum, where if you say something, your post will be locked, deleted, etc., then they say 'you need to search!' which you should technically, but it gets annoying to the point when they say it everytime you post something unless your well known, which this completely rips away tech support when the software doesn't come with a manual or book, and says goto the forum for help ).

-Similar to what I said above about using multiple engines -- I am aware that GC needs improvements, well...I used beyond virtual haven't I?  lol, we've stuck with it since then, I dont see why I would stop using it now.

Overall, on this thread, I think some people on here, no names mentioned, need to calm the heck down.  True pointless whining posts, are those who take the time to write a bunch of nonsense and say something along the lines of "STFU" or "Go use this and that" or "prove to me that" and blah blah blah.  If you have nothing nice to say, dont say anything at all.  As far as criticism goes, you must determine from what 'constructive' criticism is apart from whines, trash talking, and complaints, otherwise your just going to start a flame.

On a positive note, I am currently in transition of moving from the city creator template ( it might be continued at a later date ) to a different template.  The template will be made for interior levels.  The template will consist of floor tiles, walls, and ceilings ( YES, lol, I am taking the idea from fpscreator, hope they dont get mad!....Of course there are absolutely NO content taken from THEIR material just to let everyone know. )  More news will be made available on a seperate post/thread ( and I'm sorry for the subject change, just trying to enlighten ).  When it is finished, it may be donated to GC devs if they do so desire it.....maybe in exchange for a different non-lego character, lol jk.<-----but it would be nice.

For anyone waiting on this or that feature, figure out a way around it. Rarely does anything work the way you first planned. There is always another way. I tried every single game engine before and after GC and none of them even came close to getting me as close as GC has.

I do not know alot about player animations, but I did do enough to simulate a driver steering and shifting. I even went as far as a person walking on the track and doing hand signals to start a race, but I did not include it yet.

A perfectionist will never finish  Smiley, keep that in mind. The best you can do is continuous improvement and that will get you there.

Now with this being said, I very much look forward to the next release. Hopefully with multiplayer and master server we can customize and AA working with HDR on certain cards Smiley. At that point, I would say go into full marketing mode and get more of us indie programmers here making games.

Hey, I guess this thread has gone too far into offensive behaviors, like other people mentioned. Steely Dane, I've reported one of your posts to the moderators. Nothing personal, I'll start using this button anytime I see so offensive sutff like this coming from anyone. The button is there to be used. "Report to Moderator".

I still visit out of habit but I haven't done anything in GC for months now. I'm spending my time learning Unreal, it's a heck of a learning curve but I think ultimately it'll be worth it. The benefits are pretty obvious. Unreal gets updated once a month while GC gets updated once a year. There's tutorials and resources in abundance. I'm finding it a bit hard to justify persevering with GameCore.

@BigDaz:
I'm with you on that ... I'm not ready to abandon GC completely (still like a lot of how they approach things), but have to admit that UDK looks impressive enough ... and there are a few books (SAMS) available to help with the learning curve - and who wouldn't be willing to spend a few bucks for some decent documentation ? But of course, the proof's in the pudding ... although it does seem pretty difficult to beat the 0$ price tag for UDK (and yes, I know that if you do anything commercial with it you have to pay a royalty ... but what the heck, it's a true and tried AAA-engine that has a track record- and let's face it, many of us will NEVER get to the point of making a commerical game. Period.)

Since I attended the Vibe2K course, I have access to their "interactive framework", which makes a few things a lot easier in GC than starting from scratch  Smiley ... and to be honest, that remains an "anchor" in the GC-world. But time will tell, if GC can gain and maintain enough speed.

For me, rather than becoming desillusioned with GC, I find these very exciting times... I have a variety of possible tools at my beg & call (from the "expensive" modelling package [LW] and graphic tools  to a few 3D engines [GC, 3DGS, UDK]).  Just think about it ... 10 years ago, we couldn't have gotten access to this type of toolset unless we had VERY deep pockets.  Grin

So ... let's learn how to use our tools and do something with them that we fancy.

Cheers,
Andreas

In most forums the offending posts along with the offending poster would have been removed as a matter of course it does appear that on these forums these kind of posts are allowed.

One of the upsides to Unreal I'm just learning is the visual way of creating things that would otherwise be done in code with 'kismet'. It's like a logical flow chart.

This is a light switch that switches on a light on when a trigger is touched by the player -

But this is a very simple example, you can create all sorts of logic with it.
It's quite fun to use, just add the different nodes and plug them in.

This sets up a 3rd person camera following the player. The counter counts the number of times the player spawns, when the players lives run out, it plays a sound and shows the endgame interface -

I have had 19 complaints over this thread since Sunday, so I am going to close it.  I will also delete a few posts I feel are offensive or do not provide anything to the discussion other than personal attacks.  For the most part I let conversations run their courses, but some of the reported posts came from parents whose children use GameCore for school courses.  There is no reason to personally attack people or their choice of technology, learning is an iterative process, find what works for you, and learn from it if it doesn't.  Lets get back to making games.
