Hi ...

maybe I'm just too stupid, but I can't figure out how to get around this issue:

When I am in GameCore and I need to input any text (e.g. creating a new project and entering the project path), I notice that GC is assuming a US keyboard layout, which causes some issues because I am using a German layout (for example, I can't find the "\" key ...  Embarrassed)

Is there any way to tell GC to use the standard layout as defined for Windows ?

Cheers (and sorry if it's something really obvious),
Andreas

OK ... never mind ... I saw that this was already logged as an issue. Mea culpa.

Try the backslash, or the tilde ... that's where the fun begins.  Finding the "z" or the "y" is not the issue ! ... it's the punctionation stuff that kills ya ...

Yes, I realize that ... but the issue is that the WE etc. should support native layouts (after all ... why the heck do I bother setting it up in the Windows/Setup, if applications ignore it ?).

Hi folks,

well, RC 2.1 still has the same issue with the keyboard layout  Sad
... I had high hopes that by now this would be resolved (can't be that diffcult, right ?).

Any timeframe known for resolving this ?

Cheers,
Andreas

Or make gamecore only use this keyboard:

Then we can all make uber games with same setup Smiley

Unfortunately it 'can' be that difficult, because we don't have access to german keyboards to try and figure out how to resolve this.  We're sorta stuck unfortunately.

We are using whatever keyboard style that is returned by windows, unfortunately whatever windows is registering as the appropriate keys apparently isn't matching whatever your keyboard says it is.  We're looking into it, but I can't really say much else.

Can you tell me what keyboard layout you have windows setup with?  I can set vista up with different input languages to test with - there are like 6 or more german layouts though, not sure if / what might be different between them though.

------

Update:  Just spotted that Vista allows you to have multiple input languages registered for your keyboard and you can setup a hotkey to switch between them - this is a potential work-around.  XP probably has something similar potentially.

Shucks ... I had hoped you ignored the windows setting  Cry  ... on the other hand, all my other apps (incl. Lightwave / trueSpace / Zbrush / Torque etc.) have no problem with it whatsoever ...

When you select a German keyboard layout, what are you seeing when you press keys ?

Well, I see different German layouts (Germany / Austria / Switzerland). I just select the one for Germany (Deutschland).

A whole range of keyboard layouts are here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyboard_layout ... does this help ?

Yes, XP has the same thing.  But I fail to see how this improves anything since the labeling on the keys remains German ... and the "logical" interpretation by GameCore "sees" a (US?) english keyboard.  I could also printout a list of ASCII-codes and manually enter the characters I need by holding down the ALT-key and keying in the three digit ASCII code on the numeric keypad ...

for me its not strange that a game engine made in canada have that kind of keyboard and that i have to click some other keys. It's only a problem when i need to maybe shift-click something that often dont work in any games/engines and such Smiley

It's also important to say that this not only affects the editor but also any game that's exported too. The UK layout is slightly different from the US too, it's noticable when you register an account and have to press ? instead of @ in the email addresses.
I can't think of any other application where it's like that so it must be something fairly basic.

what do you mean 'when you register an account'?  on the gamecore.ca website itself?
