Albertus,

No offense taken friend :-)

To be honest, yes you can expect to finish a game in GameCore.

I honestly think that it will stabilize dramatically, as thus far the bugs
are being earnestly addressed. The dev's here are pumping out some
very, very good doc's lately.

The examples do cover darn near any 'basic' game type
ie: Turn based: Chess,
Arcadey/Minigames: Space invaders,Tetris, Breakout,
FPS: More included then in FPS creator,
strategy: Strategy example included in members area, still kinda works
LevelUp/Action RPG example: My heart system should get you in the
right direction- along with the new melee weapons!
Adventure Game: The class thing gives a great one
Sci-Fi: Also class thing)

It's just getting used to the whole code an object once thing in GC
that takes some getting used to man.

I think the biggest issue here is that Game Core/Beyond Virtual for some
reason never spiked the interest levels that GS did. Maybe it was just do
to the name initially, and that BV was advertised as a game prototyper, when
it was easily a AAA capable engine at the time. I've noticed unfortunately that
BV/GC don't pop up on search engines nearly as much as GS. I think though,
that with time and the new branding (which is much, much stronger) that it
will attract an audience more the size of GS, as I think that it is a more robust
development tool.

The compiled games with Game Core, from my experience are fairly robust
and stable, as well as much smaller than the sum of the assets you use. I wish
that they advertised their quite decent compression rates.

On a side note:
I have some very, very, very strong suspicions about a AAA title that was
developed with Beyond Virtual-Game Core's younger brother..
I'm just not sure that the Gekido Group was ever credited, which is very
unfortunate.

My 2 pence.

My own opinion? Give Game Core a try. If you're on the fence, jump on over. I don't
think that you'll be dissapointed.

We've been working with Beyond Virtual from the early days and the biggest issue was always a lack of a fully functional and in depth set of scripts . If you weren't too good at programming is was difficult to do anything. We got involved with BV through a university project providing a set of scripts that allowed the student to concentrate on the artwork and multimedia. The student won several top prizes that year. We then expanded this to be a complete 12 week course developing the scripting set into the advanced Interactive Framework. Both BV and GCRC1 had (and have) a few bugs but nothing you can't work around. Our complete five world Stone Of Kaflinia course game established this.

Anyone looking to get a good start in RPG Game Creation using Game Core might find our 12 week course of interest, more info at www.3dgamedesign.co.uk.  This has the full support of the Game Core development team and includes our Interactive Framework solving a lot of programming issues for you. The course takes you through the creation of the fully functional five world game and includes a complete set of assets to keep afterwards. At the moment we're also continuing our additional 2 months worth of free extended support at the end of the course.

zSnack

Thanks for your reply
I will give GameCore a try

I am not a dreamer anyway, I dont have in mind an AAA
I am happy to develop casual games
I expect that my engine does not crash any minute or so, and my models do not pass through walls....
Nothing else
It seems that with BV you could not rely even on essential features
I am just quoting what I read, no direct experience
Maybe some people were exagerating

By the way is Gamecore still using Angel Script ?
I see that they mention a generic c like script

Can you declare your own classes and sub classes ?

As far as I understand yes GC is still using Anglescript and I cannot recommend Vibe2K course enough, it is /very/ good. Yes scripting is not heavily covered but they do give you enough to get the feel of it if your not a programmer.

Hello

An other question

An other reason why I am still using 3dgs is thanks to its flexibility
It supplies a set of  generic abstracted functions and variables which can be used for any kind of games
With Torque for example it is hard to code something different than an fps

Flexibility is a very important issue for me being more intersted in simulations rather than games

What about GC ?
